Last Friday, November 23, 2012, about 9:00 am on our way to Anchorage for a little non-combat Black Friday shopping, hanging out, and lunch. It was our annual "Saturday after Thanksgiving" shopping day, a day early due to conflicting work schedules. More photos from that day soon.

My poor neglected blog. I know it's not Friday but I had to go ahead and post this. It has been almost a month since Halloween and I'm just now getting around to sharing these photos. They have actually been in my drafts folder for almost that long and I just completely forgot they were there.

Our vet's office and local newspaper had Halloween pet photo contests, so I entered a couple of photos. I thought this one turned out cute. That is Neptune in the front (a grape) and Panda in the back (a pumpkin but she had already ditched the hat). They are pretty good sports about it all.

Sometime in the last couple of years Neptune started barking and attacking the vacuum, and broom, and mop. He's not picky. Here he is waiting for the vacuum to make its move.

This last one is a little hard to make out, but there is thick heavy frost on all the trees. This was a few weeks back as well. We've had a cold winter so far, but no real snow.

Thought I'd share a couple of morning sky pictures. These were both taken around 8:30am a couple of different days last week.

 This one is taken looking south east. Pioneer Peak is the mountain on the right. Taken in my backyard.

Photo Friday - Veggies!

A few days ago our Alaska State Fair ended. Sadly I didn't make it back during the last few days to see the giant cabbages and all of the giant veggies. I did go during the first few days and saw these giant veggies, including the new record breaking pumpkin. They said with all the rain and cool weather this summer we wouldn't see many really large veggies and likely wouldn't see ANY record breakers. Well, this guy certainly proved them wrong.

This is the new record breaking giant pumpkin that was grown by a guy in Anchorage. It weighed in at 1,101 pounds! I think the last record was right around 1,000 lbs.

Additional large veggies that were on hand the day I was there. The long thing in front is a gourd. It's 76 3/4" long. The turnip on the right weighed in at 19.6 lbs, and the kohlrabi came in at 20.05 lbs. The far left is a large head of cauliflower but I didn't see it's weight. Pretty cool!

Photo Friday from my Garden

This will be so yummy! It's about the size of a softball! There are two more babies on the plant but it's unlikely there will be enough time for them to get very big before we get frost. That's okay because the babies are tasty & there's no "choke" in them.

These are two fused glass pendants I made at the Wow Factory while we were visiting family in West Virginia. I just entered the one on the left into the Alaska State Fair. The fair starts in two weeks and I'm always anxious to see all the crafts, quilts, livestock, giant giant veggies, and flowers that are entered. My husband on the other hand is less than thrilled about going to the fair and says "it seems like we were just there!" but he is nice and goes along anyway.

These are wild bluebells growing along the side boundry of the golf
course we frequent. I love how they let the wildflowers do their thing
along the edges of the course. Yesterday I saw bluebells, wild
geranium, wild rose, and the beginning of fireweed. I'll share pics of
the fireweed later in the summer when it really takes off.

So I didn't get around to posting a photo on Friday. I really wanted to but last week was a little crazy. So here are some photos today.

Saturday I took a spiral table runner class at the local quilt shop. Mine isn't all the way done, but the top is so I'm sharing that and some of the runners the other ladies made.  Mine is the one with the lime green and blues.

Photo Friday - Pretty Sunrise

Sunrise this "morning" if you can really still call it morning at 10:45am. The sun was just starting to peek over the mountain tops. It was pretty cold out too, probably 5° or so. Too cold to be outside (at least for me), but it makes for a pretty picture.

Photo Friday - Happy New Year!

We made it to 2010! I did more baking over the holidays than I have done in the past. It was a lot of fun. My favorite new recipe is for Gingerbread Biscotti. I must have made five batches - some to give and some to EAT! The usual kitchen "helpers" were around to supervise and scout for crumbs. Neptune usually waits at a reasonable distance. Panda on the other hand likes to be close by.

I thought I would start a Foto Friday post to get myself in gear and make blog postings a habit. This is my first Foto Friday. Actually, today is Saturday. Yesterday was Christmas and I barely made it to the computer.

The first photo I'm sharing is of the sky and frosty trees at Canoe Lake. I took this a couple of weeks ago when it was very chilly out (-5° if I remember correctly). We had several cold days and very thick moist air that made the heavy frost.

The second photo is a closer shot of the frost on the branches.
